In September 2019, we had the pleasure of welcoming a lovely couple who had been married in our church 60 years ago and they came to visit us as part of their anniversary celebrations! We asked them if they’d be happy to share their story on the website …here is Betty’s reply email to the photos we sent…

“On 15 Sept 1959 Betty Smyth and Tom Sinclair were married in Kells by Revd. Houston.

Betty was from Moorfields and had been baptised and brought up in Kells Presbyterian. At age 17 she began her nursing career in Belfast. It was there in 1958 that she met Tom, who had been admitted as a patient.

Tom was originally from Portstewart and had left home aged 20 to follow a career in the R.U.C. After meeting the “hard way” they fell in love and the rest is history!

On retirement they settled in Carrickfergus and are members of First Carrickfergus Church.

The photos were much appreciated and the warm welcome from you and everyone!

Best regards from Betty & Tom.”
