On Monday 1st April 2019, 47 over 60’s set out on our very first holiday adventure. Spirits were high and noise was deafening proving that the years may have been on but we were all YOUNG AT ❤️ and ready for fun!
We left at 9.30 am and arrived in Rosses Point outside Sligo around 3.30 pm. It was a pleasant journey with several eating and comfort stops on route. On arrival at The Yeats Hotel we were greeted with coffee and biscuits and allocated our bedrooms. A three course meal was served each evening at 6 pm with tea or coffee served in front of a roaring fire in the lounge.
Each night we had our own entertainment in a private room, so on the first night we had an old time movie with “Driving Miss Daisy”. On the second night we had an indoor bowling competition and on the third night we had a party. These entertainments were not compulsory but were attended by everyone. It usually ended about 9 pm and then the hotel entertainment began at 9.30 pm. It was in the form of Country and Western music. Some of our people went to bed while others sat around in the lounge listening to the music and some of the brave even enjoyed a little dance around the floor!
A buffet breakfast was served each morning at 9 am followed by a short devotional time held by Robin at 10 am, we then headed off on the bus for our day trip at 10.30.
Bus trips included Sligo for shopping and coffee on Tuesday and Wednesday. We had a visit to W B. Yeats church and grave, with a talk from a local rector, Malcolm Young. That was followed by a visit to Glencar Waterfall where we also had arranged lunch overlooking a beautiful lake. In the afternoon we had a guided tour round the local mountains and coastline, finishing up at Mullaghmore where Lord Mountbatten had been killed in the harbour in August 1979.
All too soon it was time for home on Thursday morning, and we began our long journey home amid shouts of “When is the next one?”.
We broke the journey home with a conducted tour of Belleek Pottery followed by a light lunch which was ordered in advance. Arriving back home in sunny Kells for 6 pm, tired but HAPPY BUNNIES!
A second holiday has already been booked for the same week next year and seats are being grabbed quickly, so if you are interested, please speak to Joye ASAP. mob 07761956596.
